About

Mar&I B&W

I am from Laramie, WY.  My wife is Marelize, she’s from South Africa. We met in Colorado Springs, CO while I was attending school at the US Air Force Academy majoring in Management. We have two ridiculously good-looking children that provide us with a lot of laughs, joy and humility.

This blog is a reflection of my constantly evolving interests and studies covering subjects like war, philosophy, writing, creativity, business, personal development, strategy, leadership, mullets, coffee and travel.  But more than just a cross-section of my wandering mind it is an attempt at a discussion of sorts, the kind that generates new ideas.  Be bold and throw your hat in the ring, it’s the only way that any of this will be truly worthwhile.

“It should be our care not so much to live a long life as a satisfactory one.” – Seneca

“Courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point.” – C.S. Lewis

“Machines don’t fight wars. People do, and they use their minds.” – Col John R. Boyd, USAF

“If the highest aim of a captain were to preserve his ship, he would keep it in port forever.” – Thomas Aquinas

I was on the Art of manliness and saw your article about how to shine your shoes like a soldier. I noticed your pictures you had to old Air Force Flying boots. Well as an Old Soldier the cotton ball has been my go to for 30 plus years. Are you still in? Did you get your wings? I flew helos and taught some Air Force LTs when I was at Ft. Rucker.
