What English Sounds Like to Foreigners

by Cameron Schaefer on December 15, 2009

Being that my wife is not a native-english speaker (Afrikaans) I found it quite amusing when she told me that, as kids, her sister and her used to pretend to speak English to each other, bascially making up gibberish that sounded like English. Much the same way Americans love to imitate the unusual sounds of Chinese or German.

You can imagine my surprise and pleasure then when I came across this song written by an Italian in gibberish to sound like English.

That was very good and I can personally relate to your anecdote. My former girlfriend, a German, would do the same exact thing with her sister when they were little kids.

This is so funny…..we have a friend from Iran who tries to inflect his English with what he thinks is the perfect accent when he is immitating someone else and he sounds just like this video (kind of a twanged-out texas slang).
