<p>Healthy eating has never really been top of mind at our house. We usually eat, drink, and be merry indulging in delicate cream sauces, rib-eye roasts, mashed fingerling potatoes, sauteed green beans with creme fraiche, pasta carbonara, wine, cheese, italian subs (the real deal ones), lox and bialys, homemade mayonnaise, dutch potato salad, chips and salsa, tacos with sour cream, hot dogs and burgers. Have you ever had a hot dog from <a href="http://barkhotdogs.com" target="_blank" title="Bark hot dogs in Brooklyn">Bark </a>in Brooklyn? The best.</p>
<p>HOWEVER, in desperate need of a post baby energy boost we decided to introduce a few healthier foods to the kitchen table - &quot;power foods&quot; like soft boiled eggs, quinoa, lentils, oolong tea, and blueberry banana kale honey ginger smoothies. In just 2 months it has helped tremendously. Heck we even stay up until 11 some nights watching movies! I highly recommend trying if you need more energy.&#0160;</p>
<p>Soft boiled egg breakfast<br />Usually just let water boil then put in for exactly 6 minutes. &#0160;</p>
<p>Lentils<br />Boil in homemade chicken stock, salt, any fresh herbs on hand</p>
<p>Quinoa<br />Trader Joe&#39;s has a good multicolor one that is not too expensive. You can mix it with anything and turn it into a meal. Pasta sauces, garlic, lemon, parm, nuts, cheese, dried cherries, dressings, a tiny bit of butter and salt. It also only takes 17 minutes to cook and can be served hot or cold.</p>
<p>Oolong iced tea</p>

<p>Summer project: organize the children&#39;s toys. We need a little family zen, clear spaces = clear minds kind of thing. There are toys in every room of the house. An empty pamper box full of baby Alec&#39;s toys. The kitchen, Isabelle&#39;s waiting for dinner toys. An excer-saucer that you have to leap over in the morning rush. Bath toys. Markers and coloring books on the living room couch. Tiny little Frozen characters. All that fun stuff :)</p>
<p>Not sure where to start I began sorting them all. Putting them into zip lock bags by category. Little people. Animals. Puzzles. Pretend food. Play dough stuff. Magnets. Play mobiles by scene. Paper dolls. I even resurfaced some old toys which was pretty great.</p>
<p>Talking to my mom about storage solutions for all this stuff she suggested I reuse my old boxes to make new toy containers. I love this idea.&#0160;</p>
<p>1. Plain boxes, multiple sizes (all those amazon shipments,&#0160;iKea, The Container Store...)<br />2.&#0160;<a href="https://www.donnawilson.com/423-bear-wrapping-paper.html" target="_blank" title="Donna Wilson bear wrapping paper">Donna Wilson</a> wrapping paper designed by illustrator <a href="http://www.amywalters.com" target="_blank" title="Amy Walters">Amy Walters</a> - or you can make your own using &#0160; &#0160;<a href="http://www.spoonflower.com/welcome" target="_blank" title="Spoon Flower">Spoon Flower</a><br />3. And then play around with styling the kids closet&#0160;</p>
<p>It&#39;s easy on the eyes and the kids like it too if you pick out cool patterns.&#0160;</p>

<p>I think when travelling with small children the right apartment rental can be the equivilant of staying at the Ritz. Me, husband, toddler, and new baby in a hotel room. HA HA HA let&#39;s be serious. Housekeeping may swing by every day to make the beds and take the breakfast tray but it won&#39;t be relaxing. The kids need space and cool toys to play with. A place where they can eat and take naps. They need a kitchen. Check out the <a href="https://www.kidandcoe.com/destinations/new-york/the-stone-street-residence" target="_blank" title="Stone Street Residence">Stone Street Residence</a> located in the Financial District of New York via <a href="https://www.kidandcoe.com" target="_blank" title="Kid and Coe">Kid and Coe</a>. Kid and Coe is a niche vacation home rental service for families. Now this is family travel done right! Lot&#39;s of space, quality interior design, toys, and quiet places for rest so <em>all parties</em> <em>involved</em> can have fun. Dinner party on the balcony while the kids are sleeping in their own big comfortable beds anyone?</p>
<p>We used another vacation home rental service, <a href="https://www.airbnb.com" target="_blank" title="Airbnb">Airbnb</a>, for Paris and London and it worked out great. I must say, I don&#39;t think we&#39;ll travel any other way until the kids are older.&#0160;We just booked a family vacation to Napa Valley for labor day weekend. Let the hunt for the perfect rental begin. Please send recos if you hae any!</p></div>

<div>9. Everlane <a href="https://www.everlane.com/collections/womens-backpacks/products/classic-tote-black-womens" target="_blank" title="everlane classic tote">classic tote</a> in black: A diaper bag is just a big bag right? The canvas and leather is durable.&#0160;</div>
<div>&#0160;</div>
<div>10. <a href="http://www.gilt.com/personal/sale/4664662191489750026/product/1016279159-i-miller-geni-loafer" target="_blank" title="I.Miller Geni Loafer">I.Miller Geni Loafers</a> made exclusively for Gilt: These shoes are made beautifully and go with everything.&#0160;</div>
<div><br />
<div>It’s easy to look good pregnant. One tight form fitting black dress and you are all set. Not to mention there are a ton of maternity stores with fashionable options now a days. However, post pregnancy it&#39;s tricky to look good. Your boobs are huge and everything is either too big (yay!) or too small (<em>great</em>).&#0160;</div>
<div>&#0160;</div>
<div>Somehow I’ve been managing to get by the past 8 weeks but then again I hardly ever leave the house. School runs and the grocery store are pretty much it. Except when I can’t see straight. Then we stop at Starbucks for a fancy make-me-feel-better latte. Anyway, I digress. I’ve been hiding my ill fit clothes under my coat for two months now and it was time to deal with it. You know things are bad when your mom drops little hints by asking if you need money to buy pants and pajamas. Pajamas. Need I say more?</div>
<div>&#0160;</div>
<div>Here is what I did before making my final picks.&#0160;</div>
<div>&#0160;</div>
<div>First I did an assessment of what I currently have that is working. Black lace up ankle boots, slip on Vans, classic black pumps, black maternity “skinny” jeans, long cut navy blue blazer, and a black 3/4 length coat that can take me through spring. Good base.&#0160;</div>
<div>&#0160;</div>
<div>Next I thought about my post pregnancy clothes must haves.&#0160;</div>
<div>Basic/neutral - can be worn on and off duty (I go back to work in a few weeks)</div>
<div>Can endure loads of spit up and miscellaneous liquids (sorry silk and chiffon blouses)</div>
<div>Washable - no time for trips to the dry cleaners</div>
<div>Slouchy fit - hide lumps</div>
<div>Things that can be worn nursing (sorry zip up dresses - I won’t be able to strip at a restaurant to feed baby)</div>
<div>Something that is not too expensive because once I stop nursing my body will change again - I have to compromise on quality because unfortunately these are throw away purchases</div>
<div>&#0160;</div>
<div>Then I got a little help from Pinterest to find the looks I like so I could create a shopping list. I wish I was naturally stylish but I’m not. You can see the pins I saved <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/choupomme/w-e-a-r/" target="_blank" title="WEAR board">here</a>.&#0160;</div>
<div>&#0160;</div>
<div>Also, I hate malls and trying things on in the store so I bought everything online. The shops I like best for inexpensive online shopping are: Zara (free shipping on orders over $50), H&amp;M (wow they have really stepped up their online experience and they carry maternity now), Gap, Banana Republic, Gilt and Everlane.&#0160;</div>
<div>&#0160;</div>
<div>Useful:</div>
<div>CUP OF JOE did a similar post on <a href="http://joannagoddard.blogspot.com/2010/10/10-things-to-wear-as-nursing-mother.html" target="_blank" title="cup of joe nursing mom style post">nursing mom style</a> and <a href="http://joannagoddard.blogspot.com/2010/11/breastfeeding-in-public.html" target="_blank" title="cup of joe nursing in public post">nursing in public</a>. Go her.&#0160;</div>
<div>&#0160;</div>
<div>Also, I’ve noticed there is not much out there for post pregnancy style. The nursing stuff is meh, hard to find, and pretty expensive for ugly. For all you doers and makers out there, I see a huge opportunity:)</div>
</div>

<p>This is my first &quot;get the look&quot; post and I can honestly say it took forever and was much harder than I thought. I&#39;m going to keep trying. This office space was designed by <a href="https://www.homepolish.com" target="_blank" title="Homepolish NYC">Homepolish NYC</a> an interior design company working in cities like New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago. What I like most about this room are the bright whites paired with little pieces of colorful decor. You can see the rest of this home office space <a href="https://www.homepolish.com/journal/office-space" target="_blank" title="home polish office space">here</a>.&#0160;</p>
<p>To come - I&#39;m going to try my hand at a few before and after posts. We are painting our apartment Benjamin Moore <a href="http://www.remodelista.com/products/benjamin-moore-02-super-white" target="_blank" title="super white on remodelista">Super White</a> and <a href="http://www.remodelista.com/products/simply-white-paint" target="_blank" title="simply white on remodelista">Simply White</a> which will be a drastic change from our dark warm beige. I&#39;m very excited! We are also trying to sort through the clutter and simplify our living a bit. For example, all of those trinkets and glasses we do not use in the cabinet will move to storage.&#0160;</p>

<p>This cool home in Brooklyn features brass in almost every room. I especially love the kitchen. We are in the middle of making updates to a home we plan on living in one day. First stop. The kitchen. The brass is beautiful and I would love to incorporate some into the design but I&#39;m worried that I may tire of it quickly. We are being very careful about the finishes we select because we essentially want them to live forever. Photos via <a href="http://www.dwell.com" target="_blank" title="Dwell">Dwell</a>. <p><em>I&#39;m always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it.</em> - Pablo Picasso</p>
<p>A few of my simple goals for 2014: expand family + 1 with grace, complete four posts a month, paint with watercolor, learn surface pattern design and print one spool of fabric.&#0160;</p>
<p>This will be an exciting year with the arrival of our second baby due January 26. I can&#39;t wait. Wishing you happiness and joy in the new year. - Krisitn&#0160;</p></div>
